AH34 South Coast & Waterfalls

One of our most popular tours

South Coast
Skogarfoss
Drifandi waterfall south iceland
Seljalandsfoss waterfall south iceland

From Reykjavik we drive over the plateau of Hellisheidi to the greenhouse village of Hveragerdi where many of the inhabitants base their living on greenhouse cultivation.

We drive east through the Selfoss town and the small villages Hella and Hvolsvollur. East of Hvolsvollur we get to the beautiful waterfall of Seljalandsfoss, where you can walk behind and experience power of nature standing "under" the 60 meters high waterfall. From there we continue to the community of Skogar to see the museums and the magnificent Skogafoss waterfall, one of Iceland's biggest and most beautiful waterfalls with a width of 25 meters and tumbling down 61 meters. It is quite impressive, kicking up spray into the air and creating rainbows on sunny days.

The museum of Skogar is one of the best folklore museums in the country, showing the life of people in Iceland through the ages doing their farming and fishing. You can go into some kinds of old houses, made of stone or turf.

From Skogar we drive further east over Skogasandur giving us a beautiful view on a sunny day to mountains and the glaciers Eyjafjallajokull and Myrdalsjokull. Next stop is at the village of Vik which is situated by the sea, just beside a beautiful black beach, that is quite worth taking a walk to.

If the weather conditions allow we can see Hekla volcano on the way and even the glaciers Eyjafjallajokull and Myrdalsjokull. On our way back to the city we pass through the charming little villages of Eyrarbakki and Stokkseyri that are located by the sea.
