AH39 Cruise at Breidafjordur Bay

Take a boat cruise and experience Iceland in a different way

Cruise at Breidafjordur Bay Iceland
Iceland cruise breidafjordur bay
The Icelandic Puffin

From Reykjavik we drive west under the Hvalfjordur tunnel through the village Borgarnes where we take the road to Snaefellsnes peninsula. We make our first stops at Gerduberg, a columnar basalt cliff in Hnappadalur valley, and Olkelda, a natural spring of clean drinking water. We then continue to the shark museum at Bjarnarhofn farm to taste the traditional Icelandic shark. From there we drive to Stykkisholmur, a thriving little town in beautiful surroundings, where you will have the opportunity to look around and have lunch before boarding the boat for an exciting tour of the bay.

Breidafjordur is renowned for its stunning beauty, with the perfect frame of mountains, high and low, highlighting the scenery. The most famous of these mountains is the majestic and mystical Snaefellsjokull glacier, towering at the west end of the peninsula. Breidafjordur has a spectacular seascape consisting of shallow seas, long and small fjords and an inner part of intertidal areas dotted with about 3,000 islands, islets and skerries.

A rich variety of bird life, including puffins, nests in the cliffs and this is also the only area where the white tailed eagle nests in Iceland. During the cruise the net is hauled and you can taste fresh shellfish and sea urchin directly from the sea!

Please remember to bring warm clothing.

We reserve the right to cancel the tour if the weather circumstances are unfavorable.

Tours AH38 and AH39 share the same bus transfer to Snaefellsnes. The tours split up after the visit to Gerduberg and Olkelda and are joined again in Stykkisholmur for the return trip to Reykjavik.
