Housed in an old biscuit factory in downtown Reykjavik and furnished with salvaged materials and found objects from various places, KEX is an organic concept blending a vintage industrial feel with an eclectic, contemporary touch.

More than just a hostel, KEX is like a home away from home. Here you will find a variety of dorms and rooms for up to 138 guests along with a café and bar, lounge area, heated outdoor patio, tourist information desk, laundry room, old school gym, guest kitchens, meeting room, free Wi-Fi, and more.

RIGHT IN THE CITY CENTRE

KEX is located in the centre of Reykjavik, with a view across the sea to Mt. Esja across the bay. The old factory building that houses KEX is also home to The Living Art Museum and studios of various artists, dancers, and fashion designers.

KEX is within an easy walking distance to the city´s interesting nightlife, restaurants, shops, cultural attractions, and other points of interest in the city centre. To reach those places a little further afield, the hostel is well connected to the city’s public bus system.

ROOMS

KEX Hostel offers 32 dorms and rooms with a total of 138 beds on three floors, including shared accommodation in fourteen 4-6 person dorms and two 10-14 person dorms. Private accommodation (with shared WC) is offered in four family-style quad rooms and ten double and single rooms. There are also two hotel-quality double rooms that include private WC.

Dorms

Our dorms are bright and spacious with comfortable bunks and lockers with electrical outlets for each guest. Guests have access cards to their dorm and the access is overseen by our staff. We offer mixed dorms as well as dorms for women only depending on availability. Showers and toilets are situated nearby each dorm.

Private rooms

For those who prefer more privacy and comfort we offer guesthouse-style single and double rooms with made-up beds. The rooms have a nice ambiance and many offer a great view of the ocean and the mountains on the other side of the Faxaflói bay. Showers and toilets are situated nearby each room.

Family rooms

Ideal for families or groups of four, these private quad rooms come with four made-up bunk beds and breakfast is included in the price. A baby crib or an extra bed can be added to the room to fit five persons for a small fee. Showers and toilets are situated nearby each room.

Double rooms plus

Offering a little more luxury, these spacious hotel-style rooms come with all the room features you would expect from a comfortable hotel room: made-up beds and private WC.
