Jokulsarlon Airplane TourExperience the glacial lagoon in a different way!
Flying east from our private airfield at Skaftafell, we cross glacier tongues coming of the glacier Oraefajokull, all having 1000 m. or more ice falls.
Oraefajokull is a glacier that constitutes the caldera of the largest volcano of Iceland, Oraefajokull.
Then, we fly over the glacier lagoon Jokulsarlon with huge floating icebergs, where we can enjoy the view of the glaciers Breidamerkurjokull and Esjufjoll.
Jokulsarlon is the most famous glacier lake of Iceland. Appearing first only in 1934-1935, the lake grew from 7.9 km² in 1975 to at least 18 km² today because of heavy melting of the Icelandic glaciers. Approaching a depth of 250 m, Jokulsarlon is now the deepest lake in Iceland.
Breidamerkurjokull is an outlet glacier of the Vatnajokull glacier. It is from Breidamerkurjokull that the glacial lagoon Jokulsarlon is emerging. In fact, icebergs break away from the glacier and drift slowly into the lagoon.
