There are few places in Iceland that can boast from a mountain scene like the one of the Myvatnssveit area. Most of the mountains in the neighborhood of Myvatn Lake were formed in sub glacial eruptions few thousand years ago.

The area took several millenniums to form the vegetative status it is in today and all travelers admire and love that scenery, though there have been eruptions in the area in recorded history and most recent are the Myvatn fires from 1724-29 and the Krafla eruption 1975-84.

The lake Myvatn is the sixth largest in Iceland with 37 square kilometers. It is 277 meters over sea level and it has many islands and islets in it.

This tour provides a splendid view of Lake Myvatn and its immediate surroundings.

Lake Myvatn is very shallow and on a clear, calm day one can easily see the lake bed when flying overhead.

The remarkable pseudocraters at Skutustadir can be seen from a unique point of view as well as the renowned explosion-crater Hverfjall and the crater row Threngslaborgir.

Also to be seen is the famous high-temperature sulfate area of Mt. Namafjall and one of Iceland's youngest lava at the Krafla volcano area.
