Geothermal and Hydro power plants

This excursion gives you the chance to see and experience some of Iceland's greatest natural phenomena on a route known as the Golden Circle. With a highly knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide, you'll learn about the fascinating natural history of Iceland as you make various stops along the way. Thingvellir is of great historical importance as parliament was founded here over 1000 years ago. You will be able to stand where Viking settlers proudly stood centuries ago. Gigantic rifts run through the park creating a stark and dramatic landscape. Gently moving tectonic plates run across Thingvellir, pulling apart around 2 cm a year, making it possible to stand on two continents at once!?
At the waterfall Gullfoss, marvel at the power of the water as it tumbles over two tiers before crashing 32 meters into an impressive ravine. Often with a rainbow in its clouds of mist and spray, you will never forget the sight and sound of probably Iceland's most famous tourist spot, The Golden Falls. Next stop is the geothermal area at Haukadalur where you can walk through an area dotted with hot springs, steaming streams and geysers. Strokkur is one of the largest and most powerful and you can expect an eruption roughly every 5 minutes. Watch from a safe distance as the blue/green water bubbles up, suddenly spouting almost 30 meters into the air. Be patient with your camera and you will be sure to capture an amazing scene. Continue to explore the area, looking into bore holes but don't be tempted to touch the intensely blue water or you will be scalded!
After driving through some of Iceland's most photographed countryside, the super jeeps head off on rough mountain tracks to the foot of Mount Hekla, the most active volcano in the country and often referred to as the Queen of Iceland´s volcanoes. Hekla last erupted in February of 2000 and scientists believe that the volcano is likely to erupt soon ... In ancient times the mysterious volcano was thought to be the entrance to hell or even hell it self. It was in 1750 that the first people hiked to the top of the mountain. The name Hekla means "hooded one" and instead of a typical cone-shape, it is made up of a series of snow-capped ridges. It is nearly 1500 meters up to the summit of the highest ridge which often is shrouded in clouds.
