Description
On this classic Iceland day tour we drive along the distinctive south coast of Iceland until the beautiful waterfall of Seljalandsfoss comes into view. Have a walk on the path leading up to this elegant waterfall and be prepared to take plenty of photos! If you choose to walk behind its plummeting stream of water, take care as the ground can be damp and uneven but the views, and the sound, from behind the waterfall are amazing.
From here, carry on to Thorsmork, a wide valley named after Thor, the Viking God of Thunder. Drive into this beautiful valley, surrounded on three sides by steep mountains, and cross raging rivers and gentle streams, pass caves and giant boulders and stop at the remains of a glacial lagoon at Gigjokull glacier. Take a walk in the after mains of the immense flowing flood that was caused by the eruption of Eyjafjallajokull in April 2010 and destroyed the lagoon, leaving a black area. You can possibly hike to the edge of the impressive glacier where it crawls down to lowland from the summit of the volcano.
You will also have time to walk amongst the wooded surrounds and perhaps head to the top for some magnificent panoramic views. Thorsmork is the most popular hiking area of the country and it is breathtaking to stand on top of many of the hills and mountains there. Visitors cannot fail to be in awe of its raw nature, the beauty and get captivated by its charm. We drive back to the capital after a thoroughly exhilarating super jeep excursion.
