In the summer of 2011 we offer for the first time whale watching from the village of Ólafsfjörður, situated in the Tröllaskagi peninsula. The setting of Ólafsfjörður, at the mouth of Eyjafjörður fjord, is ideal for whale watching, literally minutes away from known feeding grounds of marine mammals. Like in Húsavík, fishing has played the main role in the life of everyday Ólafsfjörður and old Icelandic oak boats, with the purpose of whale watching, fit perfectly into the picture of a traditional Icelandic fishing village.

The Tröllaskagi peninsula has recently gained easier access with road tunnels between the village of Siglufjörður and Ólafsfjörður, cutting travel time dramatically and increased safety.
Leave the main traffic of route one to experience the gems of Tröllaskagi. For instance: The Icelandic Immigration Centre at Hofsós, Iceland’s largest Maritime Museum and The Folk Music Centre in Siglufjörður, and now, whale watching from Ólafsfjörður.

The whale watching tours from Ólafsfjörður are similar to the original NS-1 tour, which put Húsavík on the map as the whale watching capital of Europe. Up to three daily departures from the harbour in Ólafsfjörður, each tour is three hours. You’ll find us by our conspicuous yellow flags.
