Description

We drive south and take a walk at a hot spring area in a short distance from the lake at Seltun, a great hot spring area where magma exists at a little depth underneath. The surface of land looks boiled and colorful; the hot springs are more than hundred; steam geysers, water geysers and even mud pit geysers.

From Seltun we walk to Austurengjahverir, hot-springs that are among the biggest on earth. In a short distance we get to some hot springs formed in an earthquake in the year 1924, enjoying a very good view over the surroundings.

Our next destinations are not far, we visit the explosive crater Graenavatn and the church in Krisuvik, one of the smallest churches in Christianity all over the world. It was built in 1857 but rebuilt in 1964.

From Krisuvik the road takes us over Ogmundarhraun that was formed in a volcanic eruption in the year 1151. We take a walk on the lava and think on the people that had to see their homes disappear when torrent of lava deluged several farms.

The small sea village Grindavik accepts us friendly. There we stroll by the harbor and watch the life in town. From there we follow the road over some lava fields all the way to the “toe” of Reykjanes where the Atlantic Ocean ridge takes land and here we stop for a while. Then we drive to a hot spring area close by and spend some time enjoying the sight of hundreds of hot springs, water hot springs, steam hot springs, clay hot springs and the geyser Gunnuhver. Here it is easy to lose track of time.

After the hot spring inspection we head for the Blue Lagoon where we will for about three hours enjoy all the amazing things the lagoon has to offer. With a visit to the Blue Lagoon, visitors get to inspire their relationship with nature, have a drink in amazing surroundings and enjoy bathing in the clean, fresh air, while relaxing in the hot earth sea.
