The surrounding area around Langjokull glacier is adventurous for hikers. About 50 years after the settlement of the vikings from Norway or in the years 920 to 930, an enormous eruption started in the northeastern part of the glacier.

We'll walk through Heilagsdalur valley, and through Selhjallagil gorge down to the Myvatnssveit countryside. The lava flow from Ketildyngja also used to go through Selhjallagil gorge 3800 years ago and we can still see remains of lava there.

Glymur – Iceland's highest waterfall

At the innermost part of Hvalfjordur you'll find two valleys, Brynjudalur valley and Botnsdalur valley. High above Botnsdalur valley rises the mountain Hvalfell (852 m over seal level) and behind it lies the mountain lake Hvalvatn which is the fourth deepest in Iceland.

In the valleys close to the town of Hveragerdi, hikers can find a number of pathways leading up to the rising plateau, where geothermal activity has enriched the view with its colorful display of moss, lichen and sulfuric rocks. There are also hot springs around every corner on your way.

Buri

One of earth's most spectacular lava tube caves

Buri is probably the most prized of all the Icelandic lava tube caves. Bjorn Hroarsson vulcanospeleologist discovered Buri the 7th of may 2005 and that find was considered one of the more remarkable discoveries in Speleology in Iceland for the last 1000 years.

Brennisteinsfjoll is the synonym for extraordinary natural splendor just south of Reykjavik. This area is covered with hardened lava from 3 distinctive volcanoes nearby. Due to the geography of the area not many have researched or traveled in it.

One of the most magnificent lava tube systems in Iceland

A little under 200 lava tubes have been found in the Laki lava field. North-east of Laufbalavatn lake resides one of the more magnificent lava tube systems in Iceland. On only 500 sq. meter part of the lava field have over 5 kilometers of lava tubes been discovered and cataloged.
