Tour of 5 days (4 nights), we visit many of the most photogenic places of Iceland, guided by the photographer Tim Vollmer who will guide the tour in both English and German. The light in Iceland in winter is something unique ... like our photo tours.

Our Photo tour is a mixture of photography workshop and sightseeing tour. We will work together to get great captures of Iceland.
In our photography part we will focus on:
  -  Making better and stronger composition,
  -  Finding different and stunning views,
  -  Technical skills (exposure and aperture), etc.

In our sightseeing part we will learn more about history, geology and nature of country.

Day 1
We will pick you up at 9 am from your accommodation in Reykjavik. East of Reykjavik lays a mountain named Hengill. The Hengill area is one of the largest and most powerful geothermal areas in the world. Hellisheidarvirkjun geothermal plant generates electricity produced by geothermal steam that vents from the ground.

Around the town of Hveragerdi are a number of interesting hot springs, mud pools, hot water springs, steaming vents and geysers. We will take a sightseeing tour around the town and look at the multitude of hot springs and green houses located in the town. Here we have our first photo-stop to take some captures of hot springs and we visit the banana house heated up by geothermal energy.

Our tour takes us over Selfoss to the Thorsa River which is the longest of all rivers in Iceland. Here we have our next Photo-stop and we take some captures of the beautiful waterfall Urridafoss, which gives us the opportunity to learn about long exposure to capture smooth water.

Now we drive on Road Nr.1 to our last Photo-stop for today to the waterfall Seljalandsfoss.

It is possible to take a walk behind the waterfall and the scenery there is really beautiful. Here we can practice more long exposure capture and we look deeper into our composition.

We will stay overnight in this area. In the evening we will discuss our photographs of this day.

Day 2
After the breakfast, we continue our travel and we will spend time to photograph the beautiful sights along the South coast – Skogafoss waterfall, Myrdalsjokull glacier, Dyrholaey, town Vik in Myrdal and Fjadrargljufur river gorge.

Skogarfoss waterfall cascades around 65 meters down from ancient sea cliffs and is by many considered to be one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland.

Here we can again practice long exposure on floating water, different angels of view, perspective.

Now we go on to the Myrdalsjokull glacier. It is the fourth largest glacier in Iceland. Southwest of Myrdalsjokull glacier lies Solheimajokull glacier. Solheimajokull is a creeping glacier and from it the Jokulsa River flows down to the lowland. We will hike up to the glacier and upon it and see how the glacier has carved out the surrounding nature. We will have the opportunity to capture details of Ice & Snow.

After this experience we drive to Dyrholaey, Vik and Fjadrargljufur. Dyrholaey is a small but majestic peninsula and it is the southernmost point of the mainland. A road leads up to the top of the peninsula and from there you have a great view to all directions. This place gives us many possibilities for different composition and angle of views with its caves around.

Near the village of Vik in Myrdalur is a sandy black beach that has some fantastic sights, such as aqua tubes and caves and also picturesque columnar basalt formations. The beach is eroding and the ocean is always creeping more towards the houses of the village. From the beach there is a view to the magnificent Reynisdrangar peaks which are a series of black basalt columns out at the sea. The beach is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Iceland.

Fjadrargljufur river gorge is by the road to Lakagigar crater row. The river Fjadra cascades down the cliff-side into the spectacular gorge beneath. Here it is great to participate in trekking the gorge.

We will stay overnight in the area of Kirkjubaejarklaustur. We will discuss our photographs in the evening.

Day 3
After breakfast we continue to photograph the beautiful sights along the South coast. Dverghamrar is a peculiar columnar basalt rock formation, created by the surging sea when the status of the ocean was higher around the last ice age. Dverghamrar columnar basalt formations are now on a conservation list. We will also visit more hidden treasures this day.

In the afternoon we will come to the National Park of Skaftafell which was established in 1967 and is the largest of its kind in Europe, around 5000 square kilometers. The glacier tongues of Skeidararjokull glacier, Morsarjokull glacier and Skaftafellsjokull glacier give the National Park majestic scenery and there are few places in Iceland where you can more easily get in contact with the great whites of Iceland.

After our lunch we will do the hiking around and continue learning about composition and angle of views. In Skaftafell National Park you will find many hiking paths, both easy and hard ones. Everyone can choose his own way and enjoy the scenery.

Oraefajokull glacier is a central volcano with a crater. The summit of Oraefajokull glacier is named Hvannadalshnjukur, 2110 meters high and the highest of all peaks in Iceland. Oraefajokull glacier has erupted twice in historic calendar, first in 1362 and then again in 1727.

We will stay overnight nearby. After the dinner we will discuss our photographs in the evening.

Day 4
After Breakfast we will continue on the east to Oraefajokull glacier where the most famous Jokulsarlon is situated. On top of it float uncountable amounts of icebergs, which we will take a closer glimpse at while we sail around the lagoon.

We will stop and photograph another lagoon too, and therefore we will have plenty of opportunities to capture details of Ice & Snow. Afterwards we go back to the same accommodation and enjoy our last dinner together.

Day 5
The last day we will head back to Reykjavik but stop and re-photo some of the places we visited earlier in the tour. We plan to be in Reykjavik around 18:00.

On our way back we will do a small hike through the lava field. East of Myrdalssandur we'll find Eldgjarhraun lava field, which happens to be the largest amount of lava on Earth to flow from a single eruption in historic time. The lava field was formed in one massive eruption in the year 934 in the volcanic rift of Eldgja which is almost 60 kilometers long. The lava field's size is somewhere between 18-19 cubic kilometers.
