AH35 South Coast & Jokulsarlon
The Glacier Lagoon, it's an amazing experience
This tour takes us through the beautiful provinces of South Iceland to the extraordinary glacial lagoon, Jokulsarlon.
We will pass the charming villages Hella, Hvolsvollur, Vik and Kirkjubaejarklaustur, see two impressive waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss and even the volcanoes Hekla, Eyjafjallajokull and Oraefajokull glacier which has the highest peak of the island, Hvannadalshnjukur (2110 m), located in Skaftafell National Park, which we reach just before we get to the Glacial Lagoon. Eyjafjallajokull erupted just one year ago and got "black" shield during the eruption because of ash but has got its former white color again, thankfully! And talking about glaciers - we will even see Myrdalsjokull and Vatnajokull, the largest glacier of Iceland.
After we arrive at the lagoon we have some time to view this stunning are.
Jokulsarlon started to form in the early nineteen twenties and is getting bigger every year. You will see many amazing blocks of ice that have broken off Europe’s biggest glacier, Vatnajokull, and sail slowly towards the ocean which is only a kilometer away.
