Day 1 - Hengill Volcano

A driver and a guide will pick you up at your Reykjavik accommodation. We will spend the day riding around the surrounding area of the central volcano Hengill. Hengill is an active volcano but it has not had an eruption occur for approximately 2000 years. The remote valley that Hengill Volcano is located in is a magical place with numerous hot springs, boiling mud pots, and fumaroles, that you can go right up to and explore. Later in the afternoon we will drive along Iceland’s amazing South Coast, to the mountain hut Holaskogur, located in Thorsardalur Valley.

Today we start our journey at one of Iceland’s tallest waterfalls, Haifoss Waterfall. Haifoss is 122 meters tall, and it is located in the river Fossa. We will ride through Thorsardalur Valley until we get to a small and beautiful valley called Gjain Valley. Gjain has stunning waterfalls, caves, and lava fields, all around.

The area is surrounded with stunning colorful mountains, and geothermal areas. We will rest after this three day journey in a well-deserved relaxing soak in a natural geothermal hot spring. After the ride, we will drive back to Reykjavik, where you will be dropped off at your Reykjavik accommodation.
