Transfer from Reykjavik to Nesjavellir road. We’ll kick off from there. The first part of the trail is one of the best all mountain routes from Reykjavik. We'll then link the trail to another classic when traversing over to Ölkelduháls from where we'll drop into Reykjadalur valley.
Reykjadalur valley is famous for it's geothermal hot spring, Reykjadalsá. We'll rest our feet in the warm water before finishing the ride in Hveragerði.
Hveragerði has a nice and old swimmingpool, Varmárlaug where we'll stop to bathe before getting into the car and starting the transport to Landmannahellir.
On the way to Landmannahellir we'll pass by Geysir Geothermal area and Gullfoss waterfall allowing the group to take a look at these wonders.
We'll enjoy dinner and overnight in Landmannahellir hut.
Today we'll stay in the Landmannalaugar area where we'll take a day's ride around the area. The area has extremely nice trails, beautiful landscape with very vivid colours. It's famous for it's beauty and geothermal activity.
In the afternoon/evening we'll take a ride to Landmannalaugar to enjoy a bath in it's hot spring. We'll again enjoy dinner and overnight in the Landmannahellir hut.
Day three and four are dedicated to the Laugavegur trail recently voted one of the top 10 best cycling trails in the world. Today we'll tackle the first half of the trail, leading us to Álftavötn.
We'll start with the climb towards Hrafntinnusker, which is the largest close to continuous elevation gain on the trail. After those uphill but oh so scenic kilometers we'll be rewarded with the best downhill on the trail towards Álftavötn.
Nested by the lake is the hut where we'll spend the night and enjoy our dinner.
The second half of the Laugavegur trail is on today's menu. We start early from Álftavötn making our way to Emstrur. Again and again we can guarantee you'll be amazed with the magnificent nature and view (of course the view is always up to weather condidtions but one can find beauty in many forms).
From Emstrur to Þórsmörk valley is an excellent trail, rolling hills and bare sands leading in to the lush valley. All of this with the majestic Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull glaciers in the background. Today has it all. We'll overnight in Þórsmörk valley.
Hike from Þórsmörk to Baldvinsskáli at the top of Fimmvörðuháls. From there we'll bike downhill to Skógar. Bikes will be transferred from Þórsmörk to Baldvinsskáli.
Today is close to perfection. The trail from Þórsmörk is scenic and demanding. We'll hike past the craters created in the volcanic eruption on Fimmvörðuháls in 2010, walk across the fresh lavafield (still warm in some spots) and make your way to the highest point on the pass.
In total Þórsmörk to Skógar is a 21 km trail with almost 900 meters ascent and similar descent. It takes about 7-9 hours to complete.
