Tour description

The south east highland lakes are a very popular fishing area. Fishing in these lakes is very popular by Icelanders. Brown trout and arctic char are found in great numbers in this lake cluster, where some lakes are mostly inhabited by arctic char and others by brown trout. Great many fish are caught in here every year and therefore, fish eggs are gathered in the fall for breeding around thirty thousand fry that are released into the lakes every year.

Fishing in the highlands of Iceland is a unique experience

The average size of fish varies between lakes, but it can be from over 2 pounds to 6 pounds. In most lakes, both fly fishing and spinner fishing is allowed but in some lakes, only fly-fishing is permitted since all caught fish must be released in those lakes. The environment around the lakes is both diverse and breathtaking. There are black sands, craters, lava, moss, crystal clear lakes and streams interspersed with muddy reddish-brown glacial lakes. The natural beauty of the highland lakes grabs a hold of fishermen‘s souls, bringing them back time and again for a rewarding experience.
