Horse Riding - Snæfellsnes

Day 1: Reykjavik – Stori-Kalfalaekur – Grimsstadir
We will pick you up at your Reykjavik accommodation between 8-9 in the morning. Please be already dressed in riding clothes. We will transfer to Stori-Kalfalaekur Farm where horses and staff will be waiting for our arrival. We will do a short introduction to the Icelandic horse and its special gates, before starting our ride into the mountains. We will ride through fertile farmlands and on good riding tracks to Grimsstadir Farm. We will spend the night at Stori-Kalfalaekur in made up beds, with showers and a hot tub on site. (25 km)

Day 2: Grimsstadir – Hitarholmur
Today's ride leads us through multi-colored mountains and along bushy hillsides. Hitardalur is a geological paradise with vast lava-fields, soft tracks through ashes, and the high palagonite mountains. Riding here gives you the impression that you are riding on the moon! We will leave our horses at Hitarholmur farm and drive back to Stori-Kalfalaekur where the hot tub will be waiting for us. (25 km)

Day 3: Hitarholmur – Kolvidarnes
We continue riding through this mystical volcanic valley. We will make a stop at the sheep gathering area Hitardalsrett. We then proceed west across Hitara River and travel through an area well known as the hideout of Iceland's most famous outlaw, Grettir. At Kolvidarnes Farm we leave the horses and from there we drive back to Stori Kalfalaekur where we spend the night. (45 km)
NB: On the next three days, we will ride on Longufjorur beach where our departure times depend on the tide. In some cases, we need to start the ride very early in the morning or in the afternoon.

Day 4: Kolvidarnes – Tradir
We meet up with our horses again and start our beach ride on Longufjorur. This famous horse trail is on the seashores of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. Enjoy the view of the majestic Snaefellsjokull Glacier ahead of you and enjoy this extraordinary trail released by the tide. We will leave the horses at Tradir Farm and we spend the night at Stori Kalfalaekur (30 km)

Optional (available at an extra charge):
Drive along the coast towards the romantic fishing villages of Arnastapi and Hellnar. Here we are right underneath magical Mt. Snæfellsjökull. Visit the Information Center of the Snæfellsnes National Park and learn about its mysterious powers. View beautiful bird cliffs along the shore, shaped by powerful waves. Meet giant Bárður Snæfellsás and hear about historic celebrities like the far travelled Guðríður Þorbjarnadóttir.

Day 5: Tradir – Kolvidarnes – Stori-Kalfalaekur
We continue our ride on the yellow colored, sandy beach. We change direction and head back towards the mighty Eldborgarhraun Lava Field. Riding here is a unique experience for everyone, with lava fields and mountains on one side of the trail, and the Atlantic Ocean on the other. At the end of the day we leave the horses at Kolvidarnes Farm and drive to Stori Kalfalaekur where we spend the last two nights. (30 km)

Day 6: Kolvidarnes – Stori-Kalfalækur Farm
This is our last day riding on the beach, and yet another new experience. The sand turns black as we follow the outline of Eldborgarhraun Lava Field. The ride ends at Stori Kalfalaekur farm where we will enjoy a farewell dinner. (30 km)
