This tour takes place in southwest Iceland on the milky-white water of the Hvítá “White” river. It is one of the most popular rivers in Iceland for rafting and river jet tours. It is also widely known by locals as an excellent location for salmon fishing.
The river originates at the Hvítárvatn glacier lake. Its water comes directly from the Langjökull ice cap, which is the second largest glacier in Iceland. In clear weather, you will be able to see the sparkling white glacier in the distance from our river jet base camp.
From Langjökull, the river flows for 40 kilometers (25 miles) before dropping down into a gorge. The river then becomes a truly impressive waterfall. The water first drops into a wide, three-step staircase. Then it plunges in two steps (11 metres or 36 feet, and 21 metres or 69 feet) into a 32-meter (105 feet) deep crevice.
The crevice continues for 2.5 kilometers (1.6 miles) in length and extends perpendicular to the flow of the river. This enormous natural phenomenon is one of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls. The Gullfoss ‘Golden Falls’ is world-famous today.
Our tour takes place in a stunning canyon, some 10 kilometers below the waterfall. The matchless scenery will surround you. Impressive basalt columns and rock formations frame the canyon. Purple lupine flowers and the dreamy, greenish milky-blue water will enchant you!
A great way to explore the canyon is to take a ride through it! Combine amazing natural scenery with adrenaline-pumping fun!
The Ultimate Jet Boat Adventure
You will feel like an action hero as soon as your river jet boat speeds up and starts blasting through the scenic canyon. The 40-minute river ride guarantees the ultimate adrenaline rush!
Jet boats are very maneuverable and they’re known for their ability to hit reverse and stop immediately from full speed within just a few feet! This is what we call the "crash stop."
The well known Hamilton turn or "jet spin" is also a hair rising high-speed maneuver. The boat's engine throttle is cut, the steering is turned sharply and the throttle is then opened again. This causes the boat to spin quickly around with a large spray of water.
Experience the enormous power and the performance of the jet boat. Enjoy the tremendous speed and the endless series of crazy 360-degree spins, power slides and speed runs! Plan on a surge of adrenaline, getting wet and wearing a smile that you can't wipe off your face! The excitement topped with such scenic views is truly unforgettable!
Taste the Real Iceland
After your exhilarating jet boat adventure, we will return to our base camp at Drumbó. At the base camp you’ll find great facilities for relaxing after the tour and enjoying life to the fullest. There is a full-scale restaurant where we serve delicious barbecue meals. The base camp is also equipped with showers and a sauna. You will have the chance to warm up after your icy encounter on the glacier river.
After the sauna, it’s time to cool down again! One of our expert beer guides (what a job!), will invite you to taste some local Icelandic beer.
Although Iceland has a long history of enjoying beer and mead, beer was banned for most of the 20th century. The day when prohibition was lifted became the official National Beer Day. Every year on the 1st of March, locals celebrate the world’s favorite alcoholic beverage.
Since the prohibition was lifted in 1989, beer-brewing culture is once again on the rise in Iceland. A fine selection of quality local craft beers are taking on the bigger beer brands. Trade has really prospered!
Our beer guide will explain you more about the history of beer in Iceland. You will get your well-earned reward: four different delicious Icelandic beers! Optionally, you can enjoy a good, local grilled lamb in our restaurant at your own expense.
This River Jet and Beer Tour Combo is the perfect detour to make while doing the famous Golden Circle tour.
