A small music festival, where the locals are the stars, is held annually in a small town called Ísafjörður. Find out about Aldrei fór ég suður (I never went south)
Aldrei fór ég suður is a wonderful small music festival that takes place every Easter Holiday in Ísafjörður, a small town in Vestfirðir (Westfjords).
Westfjords is the arm of Iceland, in the Northwest. The festival is at a new venue this year, downtown Ísafjörður, just by the harbour.
This year it will be held for the 13th time and the best known musician performing will be the Icelandic/Italian artist Emiliana Torrini.
The town has a population of about only 3000, despite that it is the largest town in the Westfjords. To get there from Reykjavik you need to drive for 5 – 6 hours or fly.
Admission to the festival is free, but if you want to go, you should probably start looking into accommodation now as usually the town‘s population will double during the festival.
They have only announced 10 bands at this time but there will be more.
