"It was an amazing tour! The two guides gave us a lot of information on the region and on Iceland and I had a great time. The drive was quite long to the glacier lagoon but the multiple stops made it look shorter! The lagoon was wonderful and is a must see in Iceland."

Tour Description

aerial reynisfjara black sand beach

Reynisfjara black sand beach seen from above.

After pickup we drive out of Reykjavik, past Hellisheidi Geothermal Power plant. You will see the water vapors rising to the air. We drive along the south coast all the way to Hvolsvollur town, the first stop.

We continue along the coast to the magnificent Seljalandsfoss waterfall. It is possible to walk behind the waterfall and experience some hidden magic in the small cave there. You might even see a double rainbow if you are lucky. This waterfall is so amazing that Justin Bieber shot a music video there!

basalt rock cave reynisfjara

The small cave at Reynisfjara beach, and the natural basalt columns.

Since waterfalls are awesome, we now drive to the next waterfall which is called Skogafoss. This is one of the largest waterfalls in Iceland with a drop of around 60m / 200ft. This waterfall constantly produces colorful rainbows on sunny days, and double rainbows are its specialty. This waterfall is also a Hollywood movie star, it appeared in the movies Thor: The Dark World and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. And of course it appeared in Justin Bieber's music video.

Enough waterfalls, now its time for some food. We drive to the small town Vik, where we have lunch. We will have a good view over the beautiful ocean cliffs called Reynisdrangar. Spectacular scenery with a black sand beach, ocean and mountain cliffs.

icelandic seal glacier lagoon

A seal, chilling on a floating iceberg at the glacier lagoon.

At last, the main event. We drive to Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. This lagoon is the biggest star of them all, and has appeared in many movies. To name a few: Batman Begins and the James Bond movies: A View to a Kill and Die Another Day. We spend some time here and enjoy the magnificent scenery. Those who booked a boat tour can now go and sail among the icebergs.

A short walk away, you can find the Diamond Beach (or Crystal Beach), a nearby black sand beach where you can find small icebergs (crystals) that have washed ashore and look like glittering diamonds. You can also take a short hike along the glacier lagoon and enjoy the mesmerizing surroundings.

seljalandsfoss waterfall

Seljalandsfoss waterfall

After the lagoon, we will start our journey back to Reykjavík. We will have a great view over Skaftafell National Park and Vatnajökull Glacier. During summer we will make a stop at Skeiðará Bridge offering a great viewing point and a photo stop over the National Park.

Let's go to the beach! We drive to the exciting Reynisfjara black sand beach. Be sure to visit the small cave (if the guide and conditions allow), you can see natural basalt columns all around the cave. Exciting stuff. You can also see Reynisdrangar ocean cliffs from the beach, from a different angle than before.

Note: Be careful at the beach and pay attention to what the guide says since the ocean waves can be sneaky and dangerous. Do not walk all the way to the ocean!

After a stroll on the beach, we head back to Reykjavik. We should be home before midnight.

vik in myrdalur village

Vik town, and in the distance you can see Reynisdrangar ocean cliffs.

Double the fun. Since this is a long day tour, you will get two separate guides (the guide can only drive for so long). One guide takes you all the way to Jokulsarlon, where you will meet the second guide. That guide will then take you back to Reykjavik. We don't want our guides to work for 15 hours straight, and we hope that this arrangement makes the tour more enjoyable.

diamond beach iceland

We'll stop at the magnificent Diamond Beach

Great day

Had an amazing time on the south coast tour. Long day but well worth it to see the sights. Tour guides were incredibly informative and friendly.

South Coast and Jökulsárlón Day Tour

5 by Kristi Dominguez March 9, 2019
We had an excellent time on both of our tours we went on with extreme Iceland! Our first trip was the Golden Circle with snowmobiling. Had so much fun and our guide was full of information. Our other trip was of the southern coast. Great trip, but just be aware that you spend a lot of time in the van. But the long drive was definitely worth it! Diamond beach and glacier lagoon are amazing! Driving accommodations are comfortable and nice.

The glacier that you have to see during your visit to Iceland!

4 by Alejandro March 1, 2019
Despite that, the bus ride took several hours to get there, the glacier lagoon and Diamond beach were the best of our trip to Iceland. During winter, make sure that you have crampons to avoid a slip and fall that could ruin your experience. Take lots of pictures and enjoy the view...

Graeat trip!

"I just want to let you know that I really really enjoy my birthday with you guys, Micah & Bjork was an amazing hostess. Without a doubt I will really come back to you. Thanks for that amazing day!"

Amazing

"This was our first time in Iceland , and me husband and I decided to book a tour since it was winter and roads were icy. I made a great decision booking with extreme Iceland . After reading several reviews and the website tips, I was sure I was ready to book Our tour guide was hilarm ( hope I spelled it right ) A whole day worth of history of Iceland , views and fun facts . I’m more than pleased to have discovered this company . Enough bathroom breaks and food breaks! Which is a plus"

Diamond Beach

4 by Ice February 3, 2019
The tour and the guide were great. The only problem was the very uncomfortable bus. The seats were very hard and there was not much leg room for such a long trip.

Loved the Diamond Beach tour

5 by Bill P January 28, 2019
"Diamond beach is amazing. It is otherworldly. Our tour guide Svenni was knowledgeable, entertaining and a great ambassador for Iceland. Glacier lagoon is great too. As if that is not enough there are several other very nice stops along the way. Don’t let the long duration of this tour scare you away, it is great."

Amazing, so worth the journey to see the glaciers. Thank you!

Well Worth It!

5 by Ava November 11, 2018
This tour is a full day (14 hours or so) - it is worth all the time. Our tour guide made stops along the way and gave up ample time to spend at each location. He was accommodating and informative the entire tour. This trip was great experience and you get to seen a lot of Iceland's amazing natural beauty; this trip is great especially if you are not keen on renting a car and driving on your own. The Glacier Lagoon was spectacular and one of the most beautiful sites. Dress warm, it can get very very windy as your make your way toward the Glacier Lagoon. Stops for lunch and dinner are included in the tour itnirary but I would suggest packing some snacks and drinks to keep on the bus for yourself. The lamb stew in Vik at the dinner stop was the best I have ever had =)

Amazing Trip

Our tour was fantastic! Picked up right on time, comfortable bus, friendly driver. The whole trip was amazing! It was a long day, but well worth it! Every sight was beautiful. Extreme Iceland took care of everything. We even had a recommendation to ask our 2nd driver (they have to switch because of driving hours) to stop at a different on the way back. He gladly agreed, and even called reservations ahead so that we wouldn't have to wait when we arrived. Would gladly take this tour again!

The overall tour was amazing, the tour guide and the driver were very nice with good service. It’s highly recommended

Great tour

5 by Irene October 3, 2018
I liked the tour overall but one day was overly packed while the next day was too relaxed. The day when we did the glacier hike, we also did iceberg lagoon and diamond beach- the issue is that as glacier hike takes a while, we only got 30 min to enjoy iceberg lagoon and diamond beach each, which is unreasonably short, those places were meant to be the highlight of the trip and we only got a taste. Whereas the next day was extra chill where we got 2.5 hour lunch in a city with nothing to see and also we did couple of short hikes. I do not understand why we had to rush the iceberg lagoon and diamond beach and why we couldn’t just skip the hikes the next day or do shorter lunch. Seems to be the result of poor planning. I hate being negative but please revise your planning for the iceberg lagoon and diamond beach. I had to take a separate tour just to see those places again.

South coast and glacier lagoon

Good tour. A little too long. Would have loved to have walked behind the waterfall in the daytime. Also the “dining” options leave room for improvement.

Great experience

"We had two great guides. One gave detailed explanation and interesting facts on the way, and one let us have great music and saga stories on the way back. Jökulsárlón is really far, but it is totally worth it! The boat tour was great and impressive, too! My sister and I enjoyed the trip a lot! We love Iceland and hope we can visit this wonderful place again soon! Thank you all again for this great tour! Takk fyrir~"

Amazing tour!

5 by Kirsten September 25, 2018
I am a solo 27 year old traveler and although skeptical of this tour initially, it proved me completely wrong!!! I was nervous it would be too long in length of time (15 hours) but the day flew by. I can honestly say that this was one of the best days of my life... the sights you can see and explore on this tour are absolutely BREATHTAKING! The drive time wasn’t bad either because it gave you a chance to hear about the landscape from the tour guide and also rest before exploring the next site. We spent about 45 min at each stop during which you could go off and explore individually before meeting back on bus as a group. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Iceland and wanting to do a day trip from Reykjavik.

Amazing tour, amazing value, amazing sights, amazing guide - just book it before it’s all sold out

Awesome!! Worth every penny!

5 by Victor De Freitas (Panama) September 21, 2018
"Awesome tour to close my Iceland adventure. Was a long long day, but a very insightful and funny one. Our guide definitely made the difference, he was super funny but at the same time serious about safety and loved to share information about his country, I have never tip so well in my life!! but he deserved it. The tour was well organized and you can cover in one day all the sites you see on every ""10 things to see in Iceland"" article. If you have to choose between Golden Circle and this tour, don't think it again and book this tour; Honestly the Golden Circle was average comparing the falls and the geyser with those in Yellowstone or Niagara Falls in US. PS: In our way back to Reykjavik we stop and saw the most incredible Northen Lights - something I have been traying to do for 2 nights with other tour operator, maybe was a lucky day for us that day, but we saw then clearly even without cameras. Do a favor to yourself and booked this tour (with the boat on Glacier). You will never regret."

Worth every penny!

5 by Sandra September 15, 2018
I am so glad that I chose to go on this trip. We covered a lot of ground and it was a long day, but got to see so much. The landscape was beautiful and our tour guides were kind and informative. I learned so much. The bus was comfortable. Overall great experience.

Breathtaking

Yes, it is a very long day but it was so worth it! The guides were fantastic, the lagoon is amazing - do the boat ride! So happy I did this tour.

Wonderful trip!

5 by Caelin August 22, 2018
We had an amazing time on the tour! Our tour guides were wonderful and very informative. I wish we had time on our trip to do the 2 day tour as I wanted to spend more time at each site. Just means I'll have to come back to visit again. Thanks for a great excursion!

Really nice

5 by Anónimo August 19, 2018
Very beautiful tour, although it's a long way, it's really nice! Very kind guides

Amazing scenery

4 by Tim Carew August 16, 2018
"Amazing scenery. tour very expensive and very long day - 17 hours. Would suggest an overnight to break the journey and make it possible to spend longer at each amazing sight. still very glad I took the tour."

Fantastic

5 by Jeanette August 10, 2018
Well worth the experience. Eagle and Siggi were great tour guides who certainly knew their stuff or at least came up with such witty explanations that you wanted them to be true. Loved the fact that we were a small group and didn't have to compete with the big bus loads of tourists and everyone in the group was punctual. The Black Sands beach was especially great as we hit it close to sunset. However if you have the time, do a longer trip. This tour was great for seeing a lot but at 16 hours, it's also very tiring.

South Beach excursion

5 by Noelle August 4, 2018
Our tour was amazing from start to finish! It was a very long day but so worth it! The tour guides were super and every stop along the way spectacular!! The very best of Iceland!

Excellent and professional

5 by Lee July 31, 2018
"We had an excellent day visiting the glacier lagoon and waterfalls. Our bus was on time and very comfortable. Both our guides were excellent. Our out going guide was fun and even played some Nordic legends for us. The stops for breaks and meals were well timed and and the food available was very good. At the lagoon the additional boat ride is a must. It is a lond day but well worth the time for the amazing and beautiful sights and experiences."

Something to remember

5 by Maura Sanabria July 25, 2018
Our guide was a very nice person, and he made our trip to iceland, something unforgettable

South Coast Glacier Lagoon Tour

4 by Amber July 16, 2018
"I LOVED being able to visit south Iceland and this tour provided everything I wanted to see. The two waterfalls, black sand beaches, Vik, diamond beach, glacier lagoon. Our tour guide on the way there was Holly and my bf and I REALLY liked her. I went expecting to be exhausted but we slept between a lot of the stops so the day went by faster than anticipated. Our bus broke down on the way back and it definitely wasn't ideal, but our second tour guide made it as tolerable as possible. I would 100% recommend this tour!"

South Coast & Jökulsárlón Sightseeing

5 by Hannah Harlan July 13, 2018
This is a great option for anyone who only has a few days in Iceland but wants to see lots! The trip is very long, as the website states, it is about 15 hours total but very worth it. We had a wonderful tour guide who helped explain the history of Iceland and the different stops along the way. There were plenty of stops to stretch your legs and grab a bite to eat. The views are absolutely incredible along the way and I highly recommend adding the boat tour!

Outstanding South Coast Tour

5 by David Scaggs July 12, 2018
Very long day with lots of stops. Saw some beautiful waterfalls, the town of Vik, Glacier Lagoon (highly recommend the boat ride), glacier beach and black beach. Tour guides very informative.

Great Day

5 by Van Cleve July 10, 2018
We had a great trip to the south coast. "Eagle" was engaging and informative. It would have been impossible to do the whole day on our own due to the long drive and we felt as if the tour helped us to make the most of our short time in Iceland.

Excellent tour and guide.

5 by Kiran kumar mehra July 7, 2018
We were extremely satisfied by this long tour. Both guides were excellent but specific mention about Hodei. He was par excellence. Very helpful and very knowledgeable. Never hurried up things and to entire convenience of travellers. Answered all our queries. During our Tour with Hodei on Golden Circle also we were very very happy. Thanks

Best Icelandic Trip

5 by clive palmer July 7, 2018
"The South coast trip to the glacier lagoon turned out to be the longest trip I've ever done (18 hours) but you know it was by far the most memorable! The 2 drivers were very informative, relaxed and accommodating. They took us to see some amazing sights. Not just amazing waterfalls (3), but incredible beaches and icebergs floating in a lagoon. The trip on a boat up to the glacier front and then slowly back to land was just unbelievable. Felt like David Attenborough on Blue Planet. Incredible sights and then to be taken to the diamond beach to see icebergs in a black beach. Totally amazing. We will NEVER forget this day. Highly recommended."

Great tour

5 by Andrew Conrad July 3, 2018
Long day but both of our guides were great! We enjoyed Nick's podcasts of the Icelandic Sagas. Norris had a lot of great Nordic mythology stories that kept everyone engaged. We couldn't have asked for anything better with the group we had. This is a great way to see the south part of the country in a short amount of time.

Great Value

Excellent Excursion

5 by James & Elaine Australia June 18, 2018
"Based on local advice, we booked three tours with Extreme Iceland over five days and enjoyed them all The three tours were conducted by different drivers who were all capable, informative and entertaining We enjoyed the small group size, the comfort of the bus and the willingness of the drivers to show us as much as possible in the time available Would recommend these tours as good value for anyone who is considering the option of hiring a car or taking a tour"

Excellent tour!

We had a very good time!Even though the trip was long our guides were extremely enthusiastic which reduced the stress. Our guide shared some Icelandic stories during the tour which was quite interesting.Overall we had a good time and I would definitely recommend this tour.

Amazing South Coast!

5 by Shubham Moondhara June 6, 2018
If there is just one tour that you want to do in Iceland, it has to be the South shore adventure with Jokursarlon! Best ever day! And extreme iceland/arctic adventures have the best set of tour guides! Just close your eyes and book this!

Wet but still amazing

5 by Marlene June 5, 2018
We nearly missed the bus as we were looking for one marked Extreme Iceland not Arctic Adventures, however the company contacted us and much to our relief sent the bus back to the bus stop to pick us up. The weather was horrible all day but that did not detract from the amazing sights on this tour, particularly the glacial lagoon and diamond beach. The two guides we had on the trip were both very knowledgeable and shared lots of interesting information with the group. They both did an excellent job driving, in what at times were atrocious weather conditions. A long day but definitely worth it.

Great Outing with a Knowledgeable Guide!

5 by Verified customer June 6, 2017
This was a very long day and the weather did not cooperate, but even so, we thought it was wonderful and worth every penny. We had Sindri for our guide and found him to be extremely knowledgeable, informative and willing to share his knowledge with his clients and answer questions. A query regarding Bobby Fischer led to an interesting discussion about his years in Iceland and a general discussion about chess in general and its popularity in Iceland. As well, Sindri was kind enough to point out the Bobby Fischer Centre to us when we passed through Selfoss. Yes, we could have rented a car and driven ourselves out to Jokulsarlon but then we would have missed out on all the history, geology and geography and people stories, not to mention the discussions that ranged from Icelandic sheep, cows, horses to reindeer to polar bears. The stops we made were all very scenic and very enjoyable. We live in western Canada and have more than our fair share of boreal forest, mountains, lakes, waterfalls and glaciers in our own backyard, so to speak, but this was the first time I have ever walked behind a waterfall or gotten up close and personal with a bunch of icebergs or seen and walked on a black sand beach. This is a great tour!

Great tour for the time poor. Do the 2 day one if you can.

5 by Verified customer May 26, 2017
The tour was absolutely wonderful. Nature and the scenery is great. The guides were both great and love their country which is infectious.

Awesome day!

Five stars

Everything ran smoothly. Our second guide that took over in the afternoon went over and above and showed us more interesting sites, resulting in a longer tour, but perfect! Will highly recommend your company to our clients as we are owners of a travel agency. Many Thanks

Very good tour
