Tour Description

Waterfall Dettifoss during a very cold winter day
The power of nature can be seen in all its glory at the mighty Dettifoss, one of Iceland’s most impressive waterfalls. With the greatest volume of any waterfall in Europe, this truly is nature at its most spectacular.
Waterfall Dettifoss
The falls are in a mighty glacial river that originates from glacier Vatnajokull. They are 100 metres (330 ft) wide and have a drop of 45 metres (150 ft) down to the Jokulsargljufur canyon.
It is the largest waterfall in Europe in terms of volume discharge, having an average water flow of 193 m3/s.

Waterfall Selfoss
Selfoss is one of the three waterfalls of river Jokulsa a Fjollum. It is located about one kilometre to the south of the mighty Dettifoss. It is 10 m high (8-14 m) and often its spray is visible from the brink of the canyon on the way to Dettifoss. Some people called it Willard waterfall, named it after Willard Fiske, and American scholar and librarian who contributed his work to the country's literary heritage. It is a very special and a beautiful waterfall.

From Akureyri and from lake Myvatn
We start by going straight from Akureyri to Dettifoss, where a mass of water, mud and sand rumbles into Iceland's most impressive canyon.
We walk through a moon-like terrain for a few minutes. While walking we hear the sound of the mighty roaring waters but cannot yet see it. We take just a few steps further and all of a sudden majestic Dettifoss is in front of our eyes.
For many, it's an experience of a life time, and has been described as 'hypnotizing' and truly mesmerizing.
Disclaimer: Due to weather and/or road conditions we might have to alter the itinerary, have longer journey time or cancellation of the tour.
