On this minibus tour we will traverse the rugged landscape of Reykjanes Peninsula, a UNESCO Global Geopark. Reykjanes has a lot of geothermal energy, seismic activity, and tectonic movements is hidden in plain sight, so this is truly an interesting tour for everyone who enjoys diverse nature. Although Reykjanes is the first encounter for most tourists that come to Iceland, it has been unjustly overlooked. Until now!
We pick you in Reykjavik and head out to our first stop, Lake Kleifarvatn. Set within a volcanic fissure, this large lake, around 100 metres deep, is said to be home to a strange, mythical creature. The lake is quite eerie and is surrounded by a jet black lavascape, black cliffs and black sand shores.Unique nature that offers a great photo opportunity
Prepare to be amazed by the colourful hills of Krysuvik, before continuing your way to Gunnuhver – geothermal area filled with bubbling mud pools. There is a ghost story embedded in its past, something that is quite common in Iceland. For those of you interested in wildlife, you will have the chance to see very diverse species of birds when standing on the cliffs of Valhnukar. If your interest lies more in urban development, you will get to see Iceland’s oldest and most popular lighthouse – Reykjanesviti.
The highlight of the tour for many is without a doubt walking between the two continental plates, which involves walking over the so-called “Bridge between the continents”. This Reykjanes tour can be perfect for your last day as it combines a relatively unexplored part of Iceland with the proximity of both Keflavik airport (the international airport) and the Blue Lagoon. If you do not have a flight to catch, we will of course drop you off back in Reykjavik, where you can enjoy the rest of your day!
The airport drop off is suitable when your departure flight time is at 4:00 PM (16:00) and later.
Blue Lagoon: if you want to visit the Blue Lagoon, you need to book the ticket by yourself (at bluelagoon.com), we recommend to book for 3:00 PM (15:00). Make your reservation well in advance. You will have to take the bus back to Reykjavik by yourself, but there are regular buses and you can pay the fare on the bus.
Drop off at Reykjavik hotels: at ca 3:30 PM (15:30) which gives you time to rest in downtown Reykjavik.
