Tour Description

One of our passionate local guides will meet you at the ‘What’s On Tourist Information Center’ on Laugavegur 5 in the center of town. Our Reykjavik walking tour begins at the famous Sun Voyager sculpture – created by local artist, Jón Gunnar Árnason it overlooks the bay and Mt Esja, making for a spectacular photo.

Our next stop is Hallgrímskirkja Church - a dramatic piece of modern architecture that is modeled on the iconic Reynisfjara basalt columns. We’ll climb its bell tower for a stunning panoramic view of Reykjavik’s multi-colored rooftops, with Faxaflói bay and the surrounding mountains and volcanoes
providing an incredible backdrop. We’ll also stop at Leif Erikson’s statue to hear stories about the first European to ever set foot on American soil.

From there we’ll walk to Einar Jónsson’s sculpture park – to see some wonderful art and hear tales from Norse mythology. We’ll wander through the charming streets of Þingholt heading back to the city center. We’ll arrive at Tjörnin Pond and feed the ducks, geese, and swans, which is a popular Reykjavik tradition.

We’ll continue over to the City Hall for a quick look at the super-sized topographical map of Iceland. Your expert guide will point out the points of interest and tell you some fascinating facts about Iceland’s unique geology. From there we’ll wind our way through the heart of the city, passing Alþingi, the oldest continuously running parliament in the world, Reykjavik’s beautiful cathedral and some of the original Viking homesteads.

By then we’ll be nearing Old Reykjavik Harbor – a rustic port that was once the epicenter of Icelandic life. We’ll find the beautiful Harpa Concert Hall on its northern shore and finish off at the Volcano House for a quick presentation on Iceland’s geothermal activity. If you’re staying in Reykjavik and want to get to know the city in the company of a passionate local guide, then this is the ideal tour for you.
