Have you ever tried standing next to a full-size whale? This is your chance, the Whales of Iceland exhibition consists of 23 man-made models of the various whales that are found in Iceland’s water, including a massive 25 metre model of a Blue Whale, the largest species to have ever existed, a giant sperm whale, the largest predator on the planet and other iconic species such as orcas and the endangered North Atlantic Right Whale. Each one has been painstakingly hand-painted, ensuring that they accurately depict what whales will look like in the natural habitat. Each model is accompanied by informative boards that tell visitors about the species, how they live and fascinating facts about their relationship to Iceland.
The exhibit also plays host to an incredible virtual reality experience, which transports guests down to the ocean floor and allows them to see how the whales move under the sea. Some of the whales can be drawn to visitors, allowing them to learn about them. Finally, visitors can don headsets and listen to the melancholy and unique songs that each whale makes: a truly incredible experience that everyone is bound to enjoy.
