Tour Description

Once everyone has arrived at our base at the foot of the impressive Mýrdalsjökull and been introduced to one another, one of our friendly experts will teach you how to operate the ATV and give you a quick safety briefing.

Then, once everyone is ready, we will head out onto the jet-black sands, which signal the beginning of our adventure. The landscape is rugged and beautiful, populated by icy blue streams, whose beauty is dramatically enhanced by the dark foreboding volcanic sands that they bisect. We will occasionally have to ford one of these small streams, an exhilarating experience, which everyone is sure to enjoy. The entire of this magical, otherworldly landscape derives from the volcanic activity of the now dormant, Katla, which was once Iceland’s most active volcano.

Ride your quad to the plane wreck!

As we continue to push deeper into this magnificent world, we will come to a coal-black beach, framed by the imposing glory of the Mýrdalsjökull glacier on one side and the white crested waters of the ocean on the other. We will pause in this breathtaking place, of stunning natural beauty, to appreciate the truly awe-inspiring power of mother nature.

From there we will continue to hug the coast, enjoying the stark contrast of the white waves, as they lap against the black sands. We will eventually reach the site of a famous DC-3 airplane wreck, whose fuselage still stands as a lonely reminder, both beautiful and tragic, seeing it is a profound moment and makes for a great photo opportunity.

I highly recommend doing the ATV tour to see the Solhemasandur plane wreck. The ATVs looked like they were quite new and it was very fun to drive, and the guide was informative and professional
