The Golden Circle & Secret Lagoon Tour
Thingvellir National Park
Our first stop at Thingvellir National Park, an area of great historical importance for Icelanders as our parliament was founded here over 1000 years ago.
You will be able to stand where Viking settlers proudly stood centuries ago. Gigantic rifts run through the park creating a stark and dramatic landscape. Gently moving tectonic plates run across Thingvellir, pulling apart by around 2 cm per year - here it is possible to stand on two continents at once!
The Gullfoss Falls, cutting unforgivably through a canyon, truly is a force to be reckoned with. You'll have the opportunity to stand next to the amazing waterfall, watching enormous quantities of water tumble with fury into a deep, meandering canyon.
Gullfoss is more than "just" a pretty waterfall. It has an interesting story to tell. Your guide will give you the details ...
The Geyser Strokkur
We travel through fertile farmland to the geothermal field of Haukadalur where you are able to walk through an area dotted with hot springs, steaming streams and geysers.
Strokkur geyser erupts every 5-8 minutes. Watch as the blue/green water bubbles up, suddenly spouting almost 30 meters into the air. Be patient with your camera and you will be sure to capture this amazing scene.
The Secret Lagoon
After seeing the wonderful Golden Circle highlights a visit to the Secret Lagoon will crown your stopover in Iceland. This pool is set in the quiet and relaxing geothermal countryside at Flúðir, a highly active geothermal area. Relaxing in the 38 - 40° C geothermally heated water is a unique Icelandic experience, one which will leave you bathed in pure joy! The Secret Lagoon, known to the Icelandic people as Gamla Laugin, meaning the ‘Old Pool’, is situated in an idyllic setting. The whole area around the lagoon is verdant and very natural. You can see steaming hot springs and a spouting geyser from the pool. Following the pathway leading around the lagoon would give you an even closer look and great photo opportunities. A café / bar with an outdoor terrace serves drinks and snacks. Why not enjoy a celebratory glass of wine, or a refreshing Icelandic beer as you bask in the soft geothermal waters?
Disclaimer: Extreme Iceland will not reimburse flight costs in case of major, unforeseen and unrepairable circumstances preventing us from reaching the airport on time, neither from miscalculations on the part of travelers as to necessary time to proceed with the flight.
