Tour Description

At Extreme Iceland we prefer to operate tours by minibus in smaller groups. This gives us the opportunity to deliver the personal service we feel you deserve.

Thingvellir National Park

Thingvellir National Park

Thingvellir National Park

To begin the Golden Circle route we start our tour with a visit to the National Park Thingvellir. The area holds great historical importance and has many remarkable geological features. The Eurasian and American tectonic plates meet here and Althingi (the Icelandic parliament) was formed on these rocks in 930 AD, making it the oldest parliamentary site in the world. The beautiful Thingvellir has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

strokkur geyser

The water usually reaches around 15-20 meters, but it can go up to 40 meters high.

Geysir Geothermal Area

Next up is the geothermally active valley of Haukadalur where we will see the famous Geysir and many hot springs. We will also see Strokkur geyser, which spouts every five minutes or so and projects steaming water to a height of about 60-100 feet.

Gullfoss Waterfall - The Golden Waterfall

Next we head over to Gullfoss, the most famous waterfall in Iceland in the river Hvíta. It’s power is inspirational and we can stand so close to it that we feel the mist of glacial water on our faces.

Golden Circle charm

Wow, what can I say! Everything was perfect, from the pick up to the drop off. We had such a fabulous time. Our guide was knowledgeable and also great fun. Iceland is spectacular, we were very very lucky with the weather. Brilliant blue sky’s but oh so cold! The Gysers, waterfalls and national parks were stunning and we were treated to nature’s best! We were then dropped off in town and collected an hour or so later for their magical aurora tour. The forecast wasn’t great and our guide told us that there was little chance of seeing the lights. But how lucky were we. Within 10 mins of pulling up in the middle of nowhere the magical lights started to dance. We ere treated to a spectacular display and we also had our photographs taken by the guide. We were the only tour bus there and this was awesome. I’ve seen other tours where there’s just so many coaches and people that it would ruin the experience. Wrap up warm though as it’s soooooo cold! Thanks so much for making our stay so awesome and memorable!

Can't recommend this company enough

We had heard nothing but great things about Extreme Iceland before our trip, so we didn't hesitate to book a few tours through their website, before we arrived. Really glad we did it, the company supplied us all the info we needed in plenty of time and our Golden Circle tour was great, the guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. Sadly, our Whale Watching was cancelled due to the storm that hit Reykjavik that day, but I guess we can't blame you for the weather! We'll be using Extreme Iceland again when we return!

Our travel guide was very knowledgable and passionate during our tour and I really appreciated what he had to share. The tour itself was great, if you have a open half day I would highly recommend. The van we rode in was clean and the tour guide seemed organized. I would HIGHLY recommend this tour to anyone traveling to the beautiful country of Iceland.

We enjoyed our tour of the Golden Circle. Our tour guide Alvaro was very friendly and knowledgeable. The trip was packed with exciting sights and breathtaking views. Alvaro timed our arrivals and departures at all the stops giving us plenty of time to take in the splendour and enjoy the different sights. I would recommend this tour to others.

Great tour

This was a fantastic tour! Just the right amount of information and length to keep us informed but not feel like we were being herded around like sheep. Our guide gave us the history and information while we were on the bus and then let us go on our own once we reached each spot. Had it been only my husband and me we would have liked more time to explore at each spot but since we had our two young boys with us, the amount of time at each was just right. Would definitely recommend.

Disclaimer: During the darkest winter months we have limited daylight. Geysir geothermal area is our last stop and we might not have full daylight there. But the place is magical and beautiful all the same, and well lit up.
