Fossavatn Ski Marathon is intended for skiers of all levels, from elite racers to recreational weekend skiers, from the oldest to the youngest. Participants can choose between four distances, 50 km, 20 km, 10 km, and 7 km.
The two longest distances have the following age groups:
16-34, 35-49, 50-65, 66 and older.
The two shorter distances have one open group for each gender. Please note that children under 12 years old must be accompanied by an older skier for the whole duration of the course.
The Fossavatn Ski Marathon is the oldest ski race in Iceland, dating back to 1935. After being cancelled a few times in the 1940s and 50s, the race has been held every year since 1956.
