Verslunarmannahelgin or Tradesmen's Weekend, named because of the Tradesmen's Holiday on the first Monday in August, every year since 1934. Retailers and other service workers in Reykjavík had previously been granted holidays on various different days since 1894. This is a bank holiday weekend and the biggest camping and travel weekend of the year in Iceland. Various outdoor festivals take place this weekend across the country, for example "Ein með öllu" in Akureyri, "Bræðslan" in Borgarfjörður Eystri in the Eastfjords and the oldest and best known being "Þjóðhátíð" in the Westman Islands.
For the ones that don not feel like going camping or traveling during this busy weekend can still join the festival "Innipúkinn" in Reykjavík which has become more and more popular every year.
