Since 1999 this annual festival has been celebrated to support universal human rights, a very special and powerful event for the LGBTQ community in Iceland as they manifest their pride in who they are and become more visible. People come from abroad to join the festival and show their solidarity as well as the locals. This popular and vibrant cultural event has been a great success of the LGBTQ struggle, in this open-minded and very tolerant country, where every cause is heard and community is accepted. The downtown Reykjavík will become full of life during the pride, concerts, lectures, talks, meetings, photography exhibitions and more are held as well games, movies, reading, and sports. The biggest event is the Pride Walk, where the LGBTQ community is gathering in the back of trucks in their full light, singing and dancing for their pride.
