This is the third part in our series: Iceland Bucket Lists. This series features a list of things to do or see before you leave Iceland. This week we will tell you about the 8 activities that you should definitely do before leaving Iceland. This series is great for planning your next trip to Iceland. So, here it is, 8 activities that you should partake in in Iceland that should be on your bucket list!

1. Go Caving

Going underneath the earth’s surface is a magnificent experience. Caving gives you the opportunity to explore the underground world and to see things you would otherwise only see in photographs or movies. Iceland has plenty of caves that you can visit, as well as countless caves that are yet to be found. Become an explorer of the underground and go caving on your trip to Iceland.

2. Go Exotic Bathing

Iceland has many geothermal and hot spring areas. Most homes and buildings in Iceland are even heated up with geothermal energy. Because of all of the heat in the ground in Iceland, many naturally heated swimming pools are all over the country. Unwind in a geothermal swimming pool surrounded by raw Icelandic nature. This will surely be one of the highlights of your trip to Iceland.

3. Go Glacier Hiking

Gear up with crampons, an ice axe, and a hard hat, and you are all set to go on a glacier hike. On a glacier hike you get to be up close and personal with Icelandic nature, which is the best way to explore Iceland. With the earths rising temperatures, the glaciers get smaller every year, so if you want to do a glacier hike, it is better to do it sooner rather than later!

4. Go on a Super Jeep Tour

In order to explore the highlands of Iceland, you need to have a really good vehicle. The highlands are the super jeep’s natural habitat, so they are perfect for exploring and travelling through rough landscapes. Travelling in a super jeep allows you to drive on glaciers, cross rivers, and go places, where other cars cannot go! Not only is it a great way to travel, but it also looks super cool!

5. Go River Rafting

In order to explore the highlands of Iceland, you need to have a really good vehicle. 6. Go Snorkeling

Iceland is the only place in the world where you can go snorkeling or diving between two tectonic plates. The fissure Silfra, is between the American and the Eurasian tectonic plates, and it makes for a perfect place to snorkel or dive. Silfra is a very clear fissure so you can see the unique nature around you very well. Snorkeling in Silfra is definitely a must do!

7. Go Ice Caving

Ice caves are sometimes found hiding on glaciers in Iceland. The caves are mesmerizing and difficult to describe without actually being there to experience them. Enjoy the different ice formations and the many colors that the snow and ice form. It’s truly magical!

8. Whale Watching

Last but not least is whale watching. Get to see Icelandic wildlife with your own eyes as you go out on a boat and look for whales and other animals. There are many different types of whales and dolphins around Iceland, and sometimes they like to make a big show for the audience. If you are really lucky, you might also see the Icelandic puffin.
