Located just 13 km east of Jokulsarlon in the South East of Iceland, this is the closest restaurant to the famous iceberg lagoon.
This fully licensed restaurant is located in the Thorbergur Centre, a cultural heritage centre, with seating for over 60 guests. The daily menu offers specialities such as farm-raised arctic char (trout) as well as other traditional Icelandic food. The Thorbergur Centre also offers ideal facilities for smaller groups and meetings.
From the 1st of July to the 1st of September a buffet is served including traditional local food, soup, starters, arctic char, lamb and dessert at a reasonable price.
During the wintertime, breakfast and dinner reservations are necessary. From October to April the restaurant is open from 8 am to 11 am for breakfast, and from 6:30 pm to 8 pm for dinner. Opening for visits outside of normal hours can also be arranged.
The Restaurant and the Country Hotel Hali are conveniently located on the ring road, Iceland’s main highway, and only 70 km west of Hofn, the nearest town with shops and other services.
At Hali there is a Museum and Cultural Heritage Center dedicated to the memory of Thorbergur Thordarson, (1888 – 1974), one of Iceland’s most famous authors. Hali is an ideal choice for photographers who want to be close to Jökulsárlón to capture Iceland’s truly magical light - which makes already extraordinary landscapes even more striking.
