The story really began in 2010 when a young lad from Húsavík, a little fishing town up north, was awarded the title "Chef of the Year".
The young Master Chef, Gústav Axel Gunnlaugsson had a passion for food since early childhood but his biggest dream was always to open a great restaurant of his own. As soon as you sit down at Sjávargrillið, you will realise that this restaurant is a dream which has come true!
Gústav has spent months travelling around the country, soaking up knowledge, picking up interesting things and nicknacks along the way, nicknacks which became treasures when put in the right place. Sidings from an old freezing plant from Flatey now serve as the backdrop to the bar, driftwood from Héðinsfjörður is to be found here and there around the restaurant and various objects from days gone by have found their way to the right place, Sjávargrillið at Skólavörðustígur!
It is this genuine interest in the minor details and the spirit to try new things and experiences which has made Gústav an award winning chef. His respect for the ingredients and the sheer passion he has for both the old ways of doing things and creating new original ways combine to ensure everything from the grill is in a class of its own.
Skólavörðustígur, is a street in the heart of Reykjavík which is full of art galleries. It is the perfect location for a seafood grill where culinary art is about far more than fancy words. The Seafood Grill will provide a feast for the eyes as well as all the other senses - a truly delicious experience.
