Hot Spring Hunt in Reykjadalur
Hike through the Reykjadalur Valley and try natural hot spring river bathing!
This incredible hot spring adventure will take you to the Reykjadalur Valley (people’s pools) at Hveragerði. It encompasses a vast array of gorgeous scenery, along with plumes of wispy smoke, which rise from the geothermal hot springs that populate the area. It is a magnificent hike, which is topped off with the chance to bathe in a steaming river, surrounded by spectacular nature.
Difficulty level: Moderate – Hiking ~7 km
Thorsmork Volcano Hike
Hike from Þórsmörk to Fimmvörðuháls with new lava and volcanic craters!
This hike will take you to the Thorsmork valley, named after the legendary Viking God Thor himself, an oasis of natural beauty, amongst dark lava fields and imposing glaciers. From there we will move on to Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull, mighty glaciers that host the capricious Katla, the notorious volcano, which caused havoc in 2010. Then we will move to the craters created by that eruption, named Magni and Móði, after sons of Þór. It is the complete hike, crammed with sensational scenery that will remain with you for the rest of your life!
Difficulty level: Challenging – Hiking 16 km, elevation gain ~800 m.
The Golden Circle & Secret Lagoon
Þingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir hot springs and the Secret Lagoon!
There are three parts to the iconic Golden Circle tour: the geothermal area known as Geysir, famous for its many hot springs, which fire torrents of bubbling water up to 25 meters into the air. The historic and geologically significant Thingvellir National Park, which bisects two continents and is home to Althingi, site of the oldest continuously running parliament, founded in 930 AD and the majestic Gullfoss (the golden waterfall), where a cascading stream of water, crashes over a chasm in an idyllic setting.
Then when we move onto the Secret Lagoon, an ancient geothermal bathing pool, known as the old pool, in Icelandic, which is situated in the idyllic area of Flúðir. It has warm, temperate waters and is set amidst stunning nature, making it a profound, relaxing and enjoyable experience.

Landmannalaugar Hiking Day Tour
Hiking adventure in Landmannalaugar Nature reserve and geothermal area!
Landmannalaugar is a rainbow-colored area in the Icelandic highlands, whose rhyolite peaks change color in the sun. Hiking there is like being in an alien landscape, with plumes of steam rising from bubbling hot springs, coal-black lava fields, emerald green forests, multi-colored mountains and so much, more. It is a sensual feast, which will excite and delight in equal measure: a nature lover’s dream that is breathtakingly beautiful.
Difficulty level: Moderate – Hiking 8-10 km
Day 1 - Hot Spring Hunt in Reykjadalur Valley
Day one begins bright and early, at 8:00 am, with collection from your Reykjavik accommodation. (Please note that this process may last up to 30 minutes depending on where you are based).
From there we will travel to the picturesque town of Hveragerði, which is around 40 minutes from Reykjavík. It is renowned for its many hot springs, which allow it to have unique things like geothermally heated greenhouses, while the town is also famous for its many beautiful flowers and gardens.
It is on the outskirts of this pretty town, that we will begin our hike, alongside a professional guide who will tell us all there is to know about the hot spring valley of Reykjadalur. Reykjadalur (steam valley) is a gorgeous place, populated by wispy plumes of steam, which rise from the various pools and rivers that dominate its terrain. We will head for the steam river, which bisects the heart of the valley, where cool and hot water combines together, to create ideal waters for swimming and bathing. There is nothing more relaxing than soaking in this temperate natural bath: the perfect reward for a 7 km hike.
Please remember to bring: Good hiking shoes, warm layers, headwear, gloves, scarves, waterproof jacket and pants, your bathing suit and a towel, and don´t forget your camera.
Day 2 - Thorsmork Volcano Hike
Day two begins bright and early, at 8:00 am, with collection from your Reykjavik accommodation. (Please note that this process may last up to 30 minutes depending on where you are based). From there we will travel by Super Jeep, across glorious glacial rivers, to Thorsmork, one of the most beautiful hiking destinations in the entire world. On our way, we will stop at the stunning, Seljalandsfoss, waterfall, where you can actually walk behind the roaring torrent of water, an ideal spot to snap a photo.
Thorsmork is an oasis of green, nestled between mighty mountains, making it the ideal place to begin a hike. It is named after the Viking God Thor, with local legend claiming that he created this beautiful place, with a mighty blow of his hammer. From there we will start to climb, heading towards the high mountain pass at Fimmvörðuháls, a craggy mountain pass, located between two mighty glaciers.
The trail is considered to be challenging, but the reward is one of the finest treks in the world: rated in National Geographic’s top 20. It has everything that you could want, including glorious glaciers, icy-blue glacial rivers, luscious green vegetation and jet-black lava fields: the kind of natural scenery that will send shivers down your spine. We will traverse the new lava field Góðaland, formed by the eruption of 2010, seeing the newly formed craters of Magni and Móði, named after sons of the Norse God, Thór. The entire day will be spent squashed between the iconic volcanic glaciers of Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull, breath-taking, awe-inspiring, memorable, words really can’t do the quality of this hike justice. The return journey is equally as good, with Mount Einhyrningur (Unicorn Mountain) a particular highlight, before we arrive back at Thorsmork, take in its emerald beauty one final time, and then head back to Reykjavik. It is a hike unlike any other, offering majestic natural scenery from beginning to end, ensuring that it will remain with you for the rest of your life.
Hiking: 16 km, elevation gain 700 m to 800 m, classified as challenging.
Please remember to bring: Warm and waterproof outdoor clothing, warm layers, a waterproof jacket and pants, headwear, gloves, a scarf, lunch, plenty of snacks, a water bottle and good hiking boots.
Day 3 - Golden Circle and Secret Lagoon
Day three begins bright and early, at 8:00 am, with collection from your Reykjavik accommodation. (Please note that this process may last up to 30 minutes depending on where you are based). From there we will take the scenic journey to the magnificent Golden Circle area, one of the most iconic places in all of Iceland.
Our first port of call will be the Gullfoss waterfall (golden falls), one of the most spectacular sights in Iceland. When we arrive, we will be greeted, by a cascading powerful waterfall, crashing across three lava steps and set to a luscious green background. It is called the golden falls, because of the golden hue that its water takes on a summer’s day, with rainbows also common: it is an awe-inspiring sight that will send shivers down your spine.
After Gullfoss, we will travel to the Geysir geothermal area, home to a large number of bubbling geysers. Foremost of these is Strokkur a bubbling, seething hot spring, which violently throws torrents of boiling water into the air every 5 to 10 minutes. You will also see the larger Geysir, which gives all geysers their English name.
Then we will travel to Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, steeped in both historical and geological significance, it is home to Althingi, where a group of nobles met in 930 AD, making it the oldest continuously running parliament that is still in operation in the world. It is also crammed with geological wonders, including the gap between the European and North American tectonic plates, which runs right through its heart, and means that visitors can gaze across the gap between two continents.
From there we will push on to the beautiful village of Flúðir, an area renowned for its geothermal activity, which leads to the Secret Lagoon. Gamla Laugin (old pool), it the oldest swimming pool in the entire of Iceland, set in an idyllic location, surrounded by forests and nature. It is the ideal place to rest, relax and rejuvenate, amongst peaceful natural scenery. Showers, comfortable changing rooms and a bar offering drinks and snacks are all available for those who need it, before we head back to Reykjavík at around 17:00.
Remember to bring: warm layers, gloves and headwear, weatherproof top layer, good hiking shoes and your camera. You will also need your bathing suit and towel for the Secret Lagoon.
Day 4 - Landmannalaugar Hiking Day Tour
Day four begins bright and early, at 7:00 am with collection from your Reykjavik accommodation. (Please note that this may last up to thirty minutes depending on your location.) From there we will make the scenic journey to Landmannalaugar, a remote part of the glorious Icelandic Highlands.
Landmannalaugar (the people’s pools) was renowned as a safe haven for weary travelers, who would stop and take a relaxing hot bath amidst stunning scenery, during times gone by. These days it is a favorite spot of adventurous Icelanders, who want to combine adrenaline-pumping fun, with majestic natural scenery. It is a magical and otherworldly place, where the rhyolite mountains change color and steam plumes rise up out of nowhere. We will explore it together, with a knowledgeable guide, who will explain about the history, folklore, and geology of this incredible place.
We will cross the magnificent, coal-black Laugahraun lava field, travel through the mammoth Vondugil Canyon and then climb Mount Brennisteinsalda, famous for being the most colorful mountain in all of Iceland. On our return journey we will pass through Grænagil, (the green gorge), so named for the green hue of the rhyolite rocks in the area. If time allows we will climb Bláhnúkur (the Blue Volcano) before enjoying a relaxing hot bath in one of the springs of Landmannalaugar. The entire hike is a spectacular end to a spectacular trip, and we will arrive back in Reykjavik at around 20:00.
