Thingvellir also straddles the famous Mid-Atlantic Ridge, which bisects the continents of North America and Europe, meaning that visitors there have the opportunity to gaze across the ever-expanding gap between the two tectonic plates. This combined with a myriad of fascinating rock formations, cascading waterfalls and glacial lagoons make Thingvellir one of the most unique places on the entire planet and a must see during your time in Iceland. Our friendly guide will tell you about its rich history and many of the myths and legends that are associated with the area.

Next up is the incredible Geysir geothermal area, famed for the, now dormant, Great Geysir which is where the English word ‘Geyser’ originates from. It also plays host to its little brother Strokkur, which propels molten streams of water up to 25 meters into the air every 4-8 minutes, making it the ideal spot to appreciate the incredible power of nature.

The final stop on the Golden Circle Route is the magnificent Gullfoss Waterfall (golden falls), so named, due to the golden hue the water takes as it cascades over three lava steps. This combined with the sheer size of the waterfall and the emerald valley that lies beneath it makes it a truly spectacular sight that will remain with you for the rest of your life.

The tour will then proceed to Iceland’s stunning South Coast, which plays host to the Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, famed for its cylindrical stream of gushing water that falls around 60 meters into a valley below. Our guide will take us to the hidden cave behind the waterfall, allowing us to see this awe-inspiring natural wonder, from a totally different angle. We will then move to the equally impressive Skogafoss Waterfall, which is wider than Seljalandsfoss and has a roaring cascade that tumbles over a high cliff into a pool below. There is a meandering path that winds its way to the top of the hill, offering a spectacular vista of the surrounding area. Our guide will also tell us about the two ‘petrified trolls’, who were so enamored with the beauty of the waterfall that they forgot about the sun and were turned to stone.

We will then make the scenic journey to the jet-black Reynisfjara Beach, where the white-crested waves of the Atlantic Ocean provide the perfect contrast to the foreboding volcanic sands. This scene is framed by an incredible series of basalt columns that are carved into the cliff which looms over the beach. A truly spectacular sight that is reminiscent of the Giant’s Causeway. We will then travel to the picturesque village of Vik, which overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and is where we will spend the evening.
