Both events are part of Iceland’s legendary Golden Circle route, making it an ideal add-on for people who are already planning to visit. We will meet-up at the glorious Gullfoss Waterfall, famed for the golden hue of its water as it tumbles across the rocks and travel to our base camp at the foot of the Langjokull Glacier in a super jeep. Once there a magical hour of snowmobiling on a vast natural wonder awaits us, following that, we will head to the Secret Lagoon, to soak in some warm natural waters and enjoy some stunning natural scenery.
Glacier Snowmobiling on Langjokull
We will meet up at Gullfoss Waterfall (the Golden Falls), famed for the golden hue its water takes as it crashes over three lava steps into the green valley below. From there we will travel via super jeep to our base camp at the foot of the Langjokull Glacier, Iceland’s second largest. Then after our expert instructor has talked you through all the equipment and given a brief safety talk, we will be ready to go and explore this majestic natural wonder. Get ready for an adrenaline-pumping experience!
The first thing that will strike you about Langjökull (The Long Glacier), is its sheer size: a vast expanse of unspoiled natural beauty. Next, you will notice the pristine blanket of snow, which stretches long into the horizon and is occasionally interrupted, by massive ice-filled craters that scar its surface and are perfectly contrasted by the massive volcanoes that surround the glacier. It is the perfect illustration of where Iceland gets its nickname of the land of fire and ice. We will explore this incredible natural wonder together, gliding across the pristine snow on our fun snowmobiles. An experience quite unlike any other, it offers exhilaration and fun set to a majestic natural backdrop, guaranteeing that it is an experience that you will never forget.
The Secret Lagoon
After we have finished our snowmobiling adventure, we will make the scenic journey to the picturesque village of Fludir. There we will find the famous Secret Lagoon, which was built in 1891 and is Iceland’s oldest swimming pool. It uses the lava that flows beneath the Earth’s surface to heat the water in the lagoon to between 38 and 40 degrees, making it ideal for bathing all year round. The lagoon itself has a magical atmosphere with spindly white plumes of steam rising from its blue surface and grass-carpeted hills surrounding it. There is a small geyser nearby, which propels heated jets of water into the air, every five minutes: a spectacular sideshow for visitors to enjoy.
All of this and more makes the Secret Lagoon, the ideal place to chill-out and replenish yourself, after the adrenaline-rush of snowmobiling on Langjokull.
