How pick up and drop off works

The pick up coaches collect passengers from over 160 hotels and guest houses in Reykjavik and deliver to the Gray Line Terminal in Holtagardar.

Standing by for pick up

Pick up from hotels and guest houses begins 45 minutes before the tour departure time stated on your voucher. To help ensuring the quickest possible collection we kindly ask you to stand by for pick up in front of your hotel or guest house when pick up begins.

On the way, we will pass the charming villages of Hella, Hvolsvollur, Vik and Kirkjubaejarklaustur. We will stop in the town of Vik and at two very impressive waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss.

On this tour you will discover the volcanoes of Hekla and Eyjafjallajokull. Before we arrive at the glacial lagoon we will also discover, in Skaftafell National Park, the glacier of Oraefajokull which has the highest peak in Iceland, Hvannadalshnjukur (2110 m).

Eyjafjallajokull erupted just a couple of years ago and was for a time coated with a "black" shield formed from the ash projected during the eruption, thankfully it has now regained its former white colour! Talking about glaciers, we shall also see Myrdalsjokull together with Vatnajokull, the largest glacier in Iceland.

When we arrive at the lagoon you will have some time to view this stunning area before we take a boat tour on the lagoon. Please note that the boat tours are NOT available during April due to the large amount of ice within the lagoon. The boat trips are expected to start early in May. The boats which carry us are no ordinary boats - they are amphibious vehicles which are as capable of being driven a short distance on land as they are of sailing on the water of the lagoon.

Jokulsarlon began to form in the early 1920s and the lagoon is getting bigger every year. You will see many amazing icebergs formed from the blocks of ice which have broken off from Europe’s biggest glacier, Vatnajokull, as they sail slowly towards the ocean just a kilometre away.
