Day 1 - Golden Circle and Northern Lights

The tour starts at 13:00 making it the perfect tour for those who are arriving on the same day or just really like to sleep in. The pick up can take about 30 minutes.

The day is a combination of the amazing Golden Circle and the Northern Lights minibus experience. Starting your Iceland trip with a bang!

Out of Reykjavík we will drive through beautiful valleys and picturesque landscapes before reaching the historic and stunning location of Þingvellir. This UNESCO heritage site is a national park and greatly documented in Icelandic sagas as it was where the parliament, Alþingi, was founded in 930, making it one of the first parliaments to be founded in the world. Þingvellir is situated in a deep tectonic valley where the two continental plates met and you can at some point jump in between them. After exploring this amazingly beautiful lake and waterfall filled location we move over to the next stop: Geysir in Haukadalur valley. Geysir is one of the most famous sights in Iceland bursting up into the sky for hundreds of years and giving name to all other geysers. Today his baby brother Strokkur has taken over, as Geysir went full stop in 2000. Strokkur erupts much more frequently than Geysir, every 4-10 minutes creating smiles and overall excitement to all those who witness. Watching this bubbling geyser and it’s skyrocket shows is a real must do in Iceland!

Third on the agenda is the king of the Icelandic waterfall kingdom, Gullfoss or the Golden Waterfall. Originating at the second largest glacier, Langjökull, the roaring river thunders through the rough canyon before dropping 32 meters in two separate stages. The waterfall can be viewed from two separate point, from above and right down besides it and we encourage everyone to try both. If you happen to catch a rainbow over the golden hue spray of the falls be sure to make a wish!

Gullfoss Iceland

We arrive back in Reykjavík and drop you off close to cafés and restaurant so you can enjoy a nice meal before picking you up again at City Hall at 20:30 for the night’s Northern Lights show. Your Northern Lights expert guide will take you to the best location to spot the auroras for the night and tell you all about the natural phenomenon while they dance in the night sky. We will return home around midnight at the hotel in Reykjavík where we will stay the night (the hotel is included on the tour).

Day 2 - Deildartunguhver, Hraunfossar, Barnafoss and Gerðuberg

This morning we will join together for breakfast a the hotel and fill up our energy bar for the exciting day ahead. The drive will take you up North, into Borgarfjörður where your first stop of the day will be at the most powerful hot spring in the whole of Europe, Deildartunguhver.  This bubbling power source provides about 180 liters a second of 100°C hot water and it’s used for heating all the neighboring towns. Green power for the win! Continuing in the geothermal theme we will next stop at Reykholt where the famous Icelandic historian, poet, and politician Snorri Sturluson lives in the time of the sagas. Fun Fact: Most Icelanders can trace themselves back to Snorri. Now to colder waters as you stop at the waterfalls

Hraunfossar and Barnafossar. The first one is known for fertile surroundings and hraun means lava as the cascade runs over unique lava cliffs. Barnafoss is known for it’s epic blue colors and power. Now we leave the fjord, Borgarfjörður and take a turn onto the Snæfellsnes peninsula. Our first stop here will be at the extraordinary basalt columns of Gerðuberg. The columns were formed from flowing basaltic lava, cooled by the sea and somehow solidified in surprisingly evenly running columns.

We will stay the night at a beautiful country hotel out of city lights to up our chances of catching the northern lights. Fingers crossed!

DAY 3 - Arnarstapi, Hellnar, Vatnshellir cave , Djúpalónssandur beach and Mt. Kirkjufell

After breakfast we will continue our scenic drive along the coastline of Snæfellsnes to the charming this charming little fishing village called Arnarstapi. There you will get a chance to walk around the surrounding area, breath in the freshest air and experience the coastal charisma. From there you will have the options of exploring the underworld of the amazing Vatnshellir cave which is located inside the Snæfellsnes National Park. The truly fantastic cave is roughly around 8000 years old and the experience of visiting it is as close as you will get to the infamous Jules Verne story, A Journey to the Center of Earth. If you choose to skip the cave your guide will take you on a hike in the alluring nature around.

The next stop is at Hellnar, where we will join for lunch surrounded by a cluster of old houses, buildings and a breathtaking ocean view.  Now we are off to the exquisite Djúpalónssandur beach and here you will get a chance to stretch your legs and go for a short hike on the pebble filled stone beach where shipwrecks have stranded.

From Djúpalónssandur we go to continue our journey, going around the Snæfellsnes peninsula and on to the grand finale, the famous Mt. Kirkjufell.

This photogenic mountain king is a favorite spot for many photographers and has been featured in many films and shows including The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and in Game of Thrones season 6 and 7, featured as the "Arrowhead mountain".
